2 Weeks Old!

Today Koy had his two week well check. It went pretty well and he's gaining weight like no other! He now weighs 7 lbs and 15 oz and is 21 inches long. He did pretty well until they cut his heel to do some more blood tests. Oh, it was just so sad and it took so long to get all of the blood they needed! He's never cried that hard and it completely wore him out. He was falling asleep before we even had him in the car seat. Here is the "report card" they gave us with his cute little footprints.

This is all he's done today...

I'm not the best at getting photos but realized last week that I hadn't gotten any of his baths. Justin has given him all but one bath and I love it!

Our days aren't too exciting right now but we are loving every minute of this little guy!

Lil' Koy is over 1 week old!

It's hard to believe that Koy has been here for over a week now, but we're enjoying every minute of it! We love this little guy so much! So far he's been a really good baby and he's even had a couple of good nights of rest. (Not a full night of sleep yet, but he doesn't get too fussy anymore.) His favorite things consist of eating, sleeping, watching sports and bath time with his dad. He didn't even scream his head off last night during his bath. Amazing! I love listing to the things Justin says to him. He's so funny sometimes. Koy's head is healing up really well. He had some pretty nasty blisters and a cut from the suction thing the Dr. used to help get him out. Here are a few pictures. His hands and feet were so skinny when he was born and now they are filling out. It's hard to get good pictures because the flash on my camera washes him out and if the flash is shut off the picture is blurry. Oh well!

Koy Burton Hall

Well here he is. I'm sure this blog will be dedicated to him real soon, so I just put up a few of his pics. He was born Monday at 11:03 am and weighed 7 lbs 13 oz, 20 1/2 inches long. His head was/is banged up a bit from the vacuum. All things considered he is doing great. Sherrie said I would do a play-by-play of his arrival, so I guess I'll give it my best shot. In my defense, the details are still a little fuzzy at this point, but I'll give it a try.
Sunday morning at 6 Sherrie woke up and was having contractions. We were scheduled to go in Monday for an induction, but the contractions were pretty heavy, and pretty consistent. I didn't have any idea what to do or what not to do, so I offered support and back massages, then just sat around and waited. Church time came and she didn't think she could make it. I went to sacrament then decided to come home. She was basically the same when I got home, hard contractions every 5-10 minutes. I hadn't learned anything new at church regarding contractions, so I sat down for a day full of football. We spent all day Saturday watching football too, so we were all practiced up for Sunday. I told her before that I wouldn't tolerate being a woos, so she was pleasant as could be between contractions. I cooked, we ate, and she kept having contractions. We didn't really talk about going to the hospital, I think we both were afraid of them telling us to come home and wait for Monday. I fell asleep after the 2nd re-run of SportsCenter came on, and she woke me up at about 11 and said we needed to go to the hospital. Then I panicked inside. We're going to have a baby. We are really going to have a baby. What are we going to do with him? What do I take to the hospital? Will I come home, where will I sleep, how long will this take? Sherrie packed my stuff, and I made it to the car and managed to remember where the hospital was. We checked in, they checked her dialation status, and said she was moving along really well and we'd have a baby in no time. Then they asked if she wanted the epidural then or later. Sherrie is sitting there, can't even talk during contractions, looks like someone drop-kicked her in the testicles (if she had them) and the nurse thinks we might want to wait to stop the pain. "Yeah, she'll just wait till after the delivery and then order the epidural to help her recover quicker. Here's your sign."
Epidural at 1:30 and everything seemed calm after that. Sherrie seemed more pleasant, and I found SportsCenter on the TV, all was well. After 3 more rounds of SportsCenter I was having a hard time wrapping my mind around what was going on. I don't know if I was more shocked that we were actually having a baby or that the Cardinals beat the Cowboys. Episode after episode I still couldn't believe they won.
We started pushing at about 7:30, and the counting was wearing me out. I hated to see her hurt so much, so I tried counting faster, but realized that probably would prolong the agony. It really sucks just watching with no way to help. 10:45 they say we're ready for the Doctor, and then ask if it's okay for the doctor's intern, a lady from the corporate hospital, and an extra nurse to be in the room. So we have like 7 people plus me and Sherrie, and she wasn't even comfortable with her mom being there, so imagine how she felt with 7 strangers. I kept thinking that anytime you are in a hospital and they come to you and say, "We have 5 extra people that want to come and watch what is happening to you," it probably isn't a good sign. Everyone came in and got ready, except for Sherrie's doc. He was late, then had the nerve to come in cracking jokes and complaining about having a super bad cramp in his leg that he took some children's tylenol for. The nurses tried to shut him up, and the whole time I was thinking, "And you really were smart enough to get into medical school?" Genius. Then he wants to joke with me about the baby being a girl. I saw the ultra-sound. Twice. In cows and horses you don't even look for the sex organs, so seeing the family jewels in the ultrasound is about as sure as it gets. But just in case I told him we could still fill out the adoption papers.
After a few more pushes I thought she was going to pass out. I kept counting faster and faster, but the little sucker was coming face up and couldn't bend the corner. So, he hooked up the vacuum and finally got him out. HOLY CRAP!!! When I saw the vacuum I thought that was about how big his head would be. I was close, except it was about triple that size. It scabbed him up pretty good, but wow. I guess that will just get him used to head trauma. Being named after Burton and all he'll have a band-aid on his head most of his life I'm sure. Anyway, what a miracle! He started crying and his lip was quivering, and all I wanted to do was rescue the little guy.
We didn't get much sleep that day or night. He decided to stay up all night, and all I had to sleep with was a sheet and a couch that is just short of 5 foot long. I was freezing, Sherrie was hot and wasted, and Koy didn't want to sleep. First night was great. Then they let us come home and he wanted to stay up last night as well. I think he just wants to stay awake and watch SportsCenter.
We took him to the pediatrician this morning, and he is no longer a Gentile. He took that pretty well too. Now he's sleeping and Sherrie is trying to too. I just want to be Superman every time I hear him fuss or cry. It is amazing how quickly you can fall in love with the little guy. They say he looks like me, so ladies beware! He is a handsome little guy if I do say so myself. Keith Nicoll always said he hasn't ever seen a baby that didn't look like a lizard or a rat. I guess I'll have to show him this little guy. We think he's pretty special.

Finally someone that speaks english!

So we got stood up Wednesday and Thursday with DirecTV and Friday I decided that we would call Comcast or Dish to see which one could get here fastest. Dish said they would have someone install first thing Saturday morning. With Sherrie finally getting religion and all we wanted to be able to watch conference at home, so Saturday morning would be best. I told her I would not tolerate scheduling an appointment and them flaking on us, and she assured me that they would either be there first thing Saturday morning or else installation and our first month were free. I woke up at 7 on Saturday and it was raining. I thought for sure they would flake. At exactly 8:00 the doorbell rang and in came a 350 pound man. No joke, I'm surprised the ladder held him up. Anyway, we got all hooked up, DVR and all. Now when we bring our kid home from the hospital we can expose him  to all the language, violence, and sex on TV. Well, violence and sex anyway. Sherrie has the language covered. Sunday during a spiritual session the channel would change, with nobody touching the remote. I took it as a sign from the Lord to watch the football game instead, but it turns out a neighbor has Dish and their remote was working on our TV. Also turns out that our receiver box is upstairs and TV downstairs, due to the low-grade cable in the walls of our house. Low grade is OK from the TV to the receiver, but high grade is required from receiver to Dish.
So, today I called Dish and the guy walked me through a few things and said that it would be hard to tell if anything worked because the TV was not in the same room as the receiver. I went up and down the stairs about 50 times while talking to him, and he thought everything worked. So I assumed everything worked and went with my wife to the doctor's office to see about having a baby. More on that later.
It turns out that the first Dish guy's method didn't work. So I called again tonight. The automated menu took about 30 minutes. Press 1 for english, 2 espanol, bla bla bla. Why can't they just put a receptionist on the line to help me? Finally the phone rang and I got to speak with a representative, but wait. I could barely understand him. "I pressed 1 for english," I said. "I am english," was his pakistani reply. Right off the bat I knew it wasn't going to work. We went through the whole process about 7 times, all while he asked me if we could hook another TV up to the receiver upstairs. So at least 8 times I explained to him, in perfect english mind you, that we only owned 1 TV and that it was heavy and located downstairs. He had me do a few things and wouldn't you know, now nothing would work. TV came on and off, and volume worked fine. Other than that we had nothing. No channel changing, no menu, nada. He finally says we can't do anything until a TV is hooked up to the receiver upstairs. I hung up pissed off and humped that heavy mother upstairs, rewired it, then called again, and the automated menu only took 10 minutes this time. After all of that my patience was running on reserve and then, like a tender mercy, the rep came on and it was some chick with a southern accent. "Thank you for speaking english," I said. She laughed a little, had me push record on both remotes 3 times, and it was fixed. All that wiring and hauling and cussing and all I needed to do was push record 3 times. Damn Pakistanis! Well now it works just fine.
Oh, about the baby thing. He manually dialated her to a whopping 1 today. I'm sure Sherrie loved that, but at least the doc is trying to help. He said technically it could come any moment, but probably not. We'll go in Friday to see if he can strip her membranes, and if not then Monday is the big day. Maybe I should have made her carry the TV back and forth......

Stood Up!

Ok, so I've been a little hesitant to post after Justin's last post. He's the bomb and now everyone knows why I love him! :) Really though. I don' t know what I did to deserve him but I am grateful everyday that he picked me!

So, you are all probably sick of the mushy stuff, so I'll stick to buying a card like Tyler suggested. Goodness. We have decided that we need T.V. It was a tough call... not! We've had free cable since we got married and this summer when we moved, we were able to get like two channels and then they switched to digital and now, we get NOTHING! Well, the satellite guy was supposed to come yesterday and hook everything up. Then they cancelled. So, they were supposed to come today between 4&6... it is now 6:50. They never call, they never write. They just expect us to sit here waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for them to come. Do they not understand the inconvenience they have caused us? Ok, it's not really an inconvenience because I just wanted to take a nap when I got home. Nothing great. Oh well. This reminds me of Seinfeld when the cable guy doesn't show up at Kramer's so he gets revenge by not letting the cable guy in when he comes and then the cable guy basically hunts him down in the street. Kinda funny....

Before you scroll down, I am warning you that if you have a weak stomach, you may puke at the second picture. It's just weird for me to see. I had to put a picture on of the blanket Kimmy made for the baby. SO CUTE! We just love it! In fact, I kinda just want to hang it on the wall because it's so cute and I don't want it to get dirty or worn out or anything. Thanks Kim! We love you! You can kinda see the hamper that Aunt Cin and the girls gave us too. It has the cute little monkey on the top. It just looks so cute together!

The next picture was taken on Sunday... 9 days before he's due. That is one huge belly! It makes me sick actually but it is pretty amazing what your body can do. (Thanks to Brooke G. for brining up that side of pregnancy. I love your advice!) For some reason I feel like a Kangaroo and it just kinda still amazes me that its a lil' baby in there and not like some strange animal like a zebra or chimp or something... at least we think it's a baby...
Anyway, so that's about the latest in our lives. Tomorrow USU plays B.Y.... I can't put the last letter. Justin would be ashamed. But even though we are going to get trampled it'll be fun to go sit on the cement steps and milk le cow!
