Well, Sherrie had to go back to work and Colleen won't relocate and be our full-time nanny, so I have become Mr. Mom, at least for a few days. The real mom will be done next week, and hopefully Koy won't be affected negatively before then. My finals were over on Tuesday, and the last 3 days have been pretty fun. I let my brain recoup after finals, and since Tuesday I've had quite a few random thoughts and had some fun with my boy. This post is dedicated to both fun and thought.
First off, a big shout out to the mighty Cougars from that school to the South. In case you missed it, they beat Utah State in b-ball by 5 points on Saturday at Radiation Station in Salt Lake. Why the neutral site? Funny question. USU lost the nation's best 3-point shooter, have only one Senior this year, and YBU said the only way they would play us this year was if it was in Parvo or at a neutral site. When asked why they were trying to get out of the in-state rivalry they said they needed more quality oponents. USU has beaten YBU 4 out of the last 5 times they've played, yet they need more quality oponents? That reason is a complete lie (suprise suprise). The real reason is that USU coach Stew is 142-12 at home, and YBU knew they couldn't win. There is no way USU loses that game if it's played in the Spectrum, plain and simple. So, gloat if you wish, all you that are "compelled in all things," but next year's game is here in Logan, and a win is a sure thing, well 92% sure thing.
Next random note, also YBU related: They play UofA in the Las Vegas Bowl. There couldn't be a more meaningless game in the history of the world than YBU vs. UofA. I mean, aside from the Cougar faithfull and all the Tusconian/Mini Mexiconian fans, who really cares? I mean, St. Johns could play Snowflake and I would at least know a Redskin to root for. But this game is pointless. So, if I really don't care, or if I dislike YBU so much why am I writing about them? They just annoy the crap out of me. They're all hypocrites and they're all the same. Heck, even Brigham Young said "away with stereotyped 'Mormons.'" Too many testimonies live and die with the success of their teams. Austin Collie, after the lucky win against Utah a year or two ago, said "Obviously, when you're doing what's right on and off the field, I think the Lord steps in and plays a part." What happened this year? Anyway, they all gloat about how great they are and how they are such stand-up guys who choose the right, yet they won't let Jim McMahon into their Hall of Fame. The guy is in the Collegiate Hall of Fame, set 71 NCAA records, yet doesn't portray the image the school wants, so they won't honor him. Sure, they love to tell about how great those teams were, how great Danny Ainge was, bla bla bla, yet neither lived the honor code and both should have been kicked out. Good enough to wear our jerseys, just not good enough for us to recognize them. Well, I've rambled on long enough.
I realize that I applied to, and was accepted to the Y, but saw the light while serving in the mission field. I still maintain, as does the Lord, that "He that is compelled in all things is a slothful and not a wise servant." Am I a hypocrite for wearing a BYU hat in my youth and thinking about going to school there, then turning around and bashing them? Maybe so, but I have repented of my youthful idiosyncracies. There's still time for all you YBU'ers to do the same.
Now I feel better. So yesterday was a big day. Koy and I went to the auction, then to get a Christmas Tree. It's too hard to get a permit in Utah, so we had to go to Idaho. I drove 170 miles total for this tree, and it still isn't the greatest, but it will do. Next year I will keep my eyes peeled whenever I'm in the forest and mark on a GPS unit where and if I find a good one, that way the hunt will be over and I won't have to cut down 4 trees before I decide to take 1 home. The whole process of hunting trees reminded me of the dating process. There's a lot of trees out there that are good from far, but far from good. Just like some of the girls I took out. I also wonder how many marraiges have been put in jeopardy, and/or broken up over the whole tree and Christmas decorating process. My birthday is on Dec. 4th, so my family can't put the tree up until after the 4th. But where it says "My Family" putting up the tree, it should say "I" put up the tree. So basically the rule is that "I" can't put up the tree until after my birthday, that way we don't overlook it. Anyway, the day was fun and Koy has a good eye for cattle. He started raising his hands and fussing everytime a good pen came in the ring. It was pretty fun to have someone with me. I can't wait till he's old enough to really enjoy it. Here's his little cowboy outfit grandma Kimmy sent him, with boots and all. He is a handsome little dude. And that concludes my random thoughts.
Justin dressed Koy in his blessing outfit and until then, we didn't realize it was a summer outfit and he had to wear shorts... oops!
